Notes for Zachariah LEATHERWOOD
Probably the son of John Leatherwood and born about 1742 in Maryland. They lived most of their lives near Woodruff in South Carolina. Its not known which children belonged to his marriage with Mary and to his marriage with Jane Calvert.1

Will of Zachariah Leatherwood
State of South Carolina, Spartanburg District

In the name of God Amen I Zachariah Leatherwood of the State & District afore_Said being Sick & weak in body but of perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto god calling unto mind the mortality of my body, & Knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and ordain This my last will and testament; that is to Say, principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of all mighty god that gave it & my body I Recommend to the earth, to be buried in decent Christian burial, at the discfretion of my Executors, nothing doubting but at the general REsurrection, I shall receive The same again by the mighty power of god, and as touching such worldly estate where with It has pleased god to blefs me in this life, I give, demise & dispose of the same in the following manner & Form.
First That all my just Debts be paid, Secondly I give & bequeath to my Grand Son Hollon Leatherwood one tract of Land containing seventy five acres more or less situated in Spartanburg District on too Branches waters of James creek it being a tract of Land I purchhis’d of John Woodruff Deed Baring Date 28th Day of June 1814 also give to my grand Daughter Polly Hobbey one young Bay mare Known by the name of Bradey also fifty Dollars in Cash also give to my Daughter Peggey Leatherwood During Life one negro Woman named Milley about twenty five years old, Further wish that ginney Langford do take the said Peggey Leatherwood & said negro woman Milley & take cea of his During Life & at hir Death that my Executors take the said negro woman Milley & hir of spring if any & sell them & pay said ginney Langford full satisfaction for hir trouble out of the sail of said netros & if any Ballance to be Equaly Divided between my Children, The Remaining part of my Estate to Real & Personal I wish to be sold at a creadditte of twelve months, ninty pount fourteen shililngs Virginia money & to be Equaly Divided between Elizabeth Hobbey William Leahterwood Deceased his Heirs to Recive his part, Nancy Colbert Frances Edwards Fanney Johnson Siddey Langord, John Leatherwood & Thomas Leatherwood the Remaining part of my Estate be equally devided amongh all my Children say Elizabeth Hobbey William Leatherwood Deceazed his Heirs to Claim his part Nancy Coldbert John Leatherwood Frances Edward Famey Johnston Siddey Langford Thomas Leatherwood James Leatherwood George Leatherwood Ginney Langford Polley Langford Ruthey Langford & Peggey Leatherwood. Peggers part to Remain in the hand of my Executors to be Handed for her Support at there Discreation I likewise constitute made and Ordain Daniel McKei John Leatherwood & James Leatherwood my Executors to this my Last will and testament, and I do here by utterly disallow Revoke & Disannul all & every other will & testament confirming this & no other to be my last will & testament in witness where of I have hereunto Set my hand and seal This 28th Day of June Eighteen Hundred & fourteen.
