He attended what was then known as Dr. Nelson’s Institute and taught school. He was licensed as a preacher in 1853 and followed his father’s footsteps as a minister. He served in the State Legislature and was a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln1

1911 Quincy Illinois newspaper:

“Abraham T. Stone, one of the first white settlers of Adams Co. was born 5 Mar 1818 in Licking Co. Ohio near Newark. He was the second son of Samuel and Rahoda Stone. He came to Illinois in April 1822. Following after his father he was a local preacher.”
