Obituary notes for Herman Joseph POTTER
Friday, October 29, 1943 - Boonville Daily News

Herman Potter, 217 Elm Street, received a message last night stating that his son, Master Sergeant Herman J. Potter, Jr., died on Oct. 16 in Algeria as a result of an accident. A letter from the war department will follow later giving the full details. When Herman, Jr. was 17, he joined the armed forces and has been serving his country for sixteen years. He served two years and three months in the Panama Canal zone and on returning to this country he was assigned to Jefferson Barracks at St. Louis. He has been in foreign service since June 18, 1942 with the sixth armored infantry. He fought in the great battles in Africa under General Patton. He was born December 16, 1911 at Pacific, Mo., and lived in Pacific and St. Louis most of his life. In 1932 he married Miss Marie Roth of St. Louis and to this union three children were born, Loretta, Barbara, and Herman, Jr., all of whom survive. He is also survived by his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Potter; his uncle, Curley Potter; and his grandfather, John H. Potter, all of Boonville, and many other relatives.53
