Became third proprietary governor of Maryland on August 6, 1648. Later lived in Poynton Manor.

Both presumably buried on the manor but location of graves no longer marked nor known. children: 1. elizabeth, b. hunger’s Parish, Accomac/Northampton County, virginia, bef. 1648; m 1661/2 to William Calvert, s. of leonard Calvert and nephew of Cecelius Calvert, Lord Baltimore; 2. Thomas, b. same place, bef. 1648; d. maryland, 1676; 3. richard, b same place, bef (1648); d. maryland, 1667; 4. john, b. same place; m. (1) Elizabeth Warren. 5. Matthew, b. Charles County maryland, aft 1648; d. maryland, 1672 (living in 1660); m. Margery _____; 6. mary, b. same place, aft 1648; living in 1675; m (1) John Thomas; (2) Col. Robert Doyne; Mary and Robert Doyne were the progenitors of the twentieth cenury owners of Poynton Manor; 7. Catherine, b. same place, aft. 1648; living in 1660; unmarried then.”115
