Notes for Thomas Dye STORER
One early ancestor was one of the first residents of New Amsterdam. He came over on the ship with Jonas Bronck (Bronx named after him) in early 1600s. The ancestor leased land from Jonas. He was banned from New Amsterdam for having sold his ear. His ear was cut off and flogged in public. Banished to Bergen county, New Jersey. The original last name was Duyts which later transformed to VanDye. See http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/7217280/person/-1140508068
