Notes for John Clarence STONE
John was a barber in Leroy. He made the run into the Cherokee Strip with his brother, James, and took a piece of ground where the Three Sands Oil Field was later discovered. Because the ground was poor, he sold and bought a farm near Lone Elm, Kansas. Later he and Tina sold this and bought an Orange Grove near McAllen Texas, and remained there until their deaths.

Elvin Charles Stone also said Uncle John (Elvin’s dad) made the run into Oklahoma with Uncle Jim and Uncle Frank and took a farm south of the one Uncle Jim took. The ground turned out to be sso poor he gave it up and took another east of it. Thee one he originally took later was in the middle of the Three Sands Oil Field.--Helen Woodruff, January 28, 1981.

Samuel and Catherine are indicated as married. All the children are marked as single. All children from Carrie to John were in school that year. All four grandparents were born in Virginia. John, Frank, and Ruth were born in Kansas. All the others in the family were born in Ohio.
