Went to Kansas City when he was 17 years old and became a messenger boy for Western Union. He attended college in Sedalia, Missouri and studied Telegraphy. He was superintendant of the West Bottoms Office during the flood of 1903, delivering the last message from the office in a row boat. In later years he was a contractor and builder in Kansas City.
