Notes for Burrton Glenn WOODRUFF
They were homesteaders in many areas. Lived for sometime in a dugout near Ceres, Oklahoma around Bliss (Marland). Went to Canada and stayed a short time. He forfeited a Canadian homestead because he refused to give up his USA citizenship. Took another homestead in a land drawing in Caddo Co., Oklahoma. Lived in Wichita for a while, where he learned the Blacksmith and horse shoeing trade from the Bentleys. Lived on a farm in Missouri, near Camden for sometime and then located permanently in Tonkawa, Kay Co., Oklahoma. He owned and operated machine shop as a blacksmith there for 50 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, served on the City Council and was Mayor at various times. His name is on the cornerstone of the Police Station and Power Plant in Tonkawa. He was a member and officer of the “Old Time Cherokeet Strip Cow Punchers Association”. Rev Reinhardt said at his funeral that he had lived through the most colorful period of American History.

Burrton’s mother died in 1880 when he was 6. His father had died in 1879. The three children (Herman, Isabel, and Burrton)
