Notes for Mary Magdalena DIRINGER
Her great grandson Joseph Marion Meisburger (b 1932) told Helen Nadine Stone this story about his G-Grandmother, told to him by his Grandfather (Joe): “There is one incident related to me by Grandpa, you may or may not have heard. It was before he was born and concerned one of his older sisters, who was a baby during the Civil War. Missourians were constantly visited by soldiers of both sides and they would of course hid valuables as best they could. G-Grandmother Meisburger had a reaonably large sum of money for some special purchase when she was visited by a troop of of soldiers. She prepared dinner for them while they searched the house. The senior Officer held the baby on his lap for awhile. They ate and left without incident. The senior office had the money in his lap most of the time, Grandmother had put the money in the baby’s diaper”.
